There Are 70 Conflicts Worldwide, So Why Do We Focus on Just One?

Islam and Muslims are involved in at least 25 of the conflicts going on in the world:  in Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Bosnia, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Cyprus, East Timor, India, Indonesia (2 provinces), Kashmir, Kazakastan, Kosovo, Kurdistan, Macedonia, the Middle East, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Sudan, Russia-Chechnya, Tajikistan, Thailand, Uganda and Uzbekistan.

Doesn’t this mean that extremist Islam is the norm and normal Islam is extremely rare?

Via Irish Examiner:

The media has a fixation on Israel (and its supposed crimes) which is, for want of a better word, disproportionate. The fact that Israel is the world’s one and only Jewish state – amidst a vast ocean of Muslim states – inevitably makes many Jewish people think it’s them, and not Israel as such, which is in the media’s sights.

The International Crisis Group is currently tracking 70 conflicts around the world, from Afghanistan and Algeria to Yemen and Zimbabwe. So why the obsession with Israel? It’s the only country in the world whose existence is queried.

Could it be some wrongheaded notion of guilt for having set up Israel after the Holocaust, when actually Israel fought British imperialism for its independence? Could it be, as many Israelis believe, that we see Israelis as Jews in the latest manifestation of centuries-old anti-Semitism?

New Mental Disease Identified

Posted by Mats on 23/05/2009

By Warner Todd Huston

Press Release

The American Psychologist Association (APA) has identified a new, debilitative mental disorder today in hopes that patients will seek help. The new syndrome, Iconographic Desire Influenced by Obama’s Terrificness Syndrome (or IDIOT Syndrome), has been identified in at least one case in Cincinnati, Ohio.

This mental disease manifests itself in an acute desire to collect photos, bobble head figures, coffee cups, T-Shirts and other items emblazoned with the iconic, religious figure of Barack Obama or the spiffy red and blue “O” logo developed for his permanent campaign.

The disorder can cause psychotic breakdowns, violent behavior, disregard for personal responsibility, sudden disdain for friends but an unhealthy need to be loved by enemies, instant arrogance or undeserved self-esteem, TelePrompter dependence, and flights of fantasy.

The worst cases present as an intense worship of The One, delusions of his beneficence, blind assumptions that he’ll buy the sufferer a house and a PlayStation, yet also exhibits a curious unconcern over the safety of the nation.

Sufferers are known by a near orgasmic trembling in the voice when discussing politics, an irrational and instantaneous mood swing to fury when criticism of the messiah is voiced by friends or family, an assumed state of self-assurance approaching arrogance, coupled with a complete lack of concrete knowledge of any facts on current or historical events.

If you know anyone with this syndrome, call your nearest psychiatrist or arrange a visit to a nearby mental health facility.

If you live in Hollywood, there is no hope for you. Quickly sell any property you have or business you might be unfortunate enough to own and move to Colorado.

Joshua’s Long Day

Posted by Mats on 23/05/2009

May 17, 2009

“And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.” (Joshua 10:14)

One of the most amazing events of history occurred when “the LORD fought for Israel” to enable them to conquer and occupy the Promised Land, even to the extent that, on one occasion, “the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day” (Joshua 10:13).

Some quibble about the language employed, suggesting that Joshua thought the sun “moves,” instead of the earth. The fact is, the motion of any heavenly body must be given in terms of relative motion (since all objects in the universe are moving in some way). Scientists normally assume the fixed point of zero motion to be the one which makes their equations most convenient to use, and this usually is the earth’s surface at the location of the observer. Joshua’s language was . . . quite scientific!

Furthermore, many scholars have documented numerous traditions of a “long day” (or “long night,” in the western hemisphere) about the time of Joshua. The biblical story is well supported as a real fact of history. There was a long day!

Such an event required the direct intervention of the Creator Himself. He who had started the earth rotating in the first place, when He separated day and night (Genesis 1:3-5), now slowed it down again until it stopped, and the daylight continued until Joshua could rout the Amorites.

God may not usually answer prayers and fulfill promises by such a mighty miracle as this, but He does answer prayer and keep His Word, and this unique event shows He is willing and able to do whatever is needed to accomplish His will. “The sun and moon stood still in their habitation: at the light of thine arrows they went. . . . Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people” (Habakkuk 3:11-13). HMM
